2017 North Harbour Secondary Schools Finals Day for 1st XV 1B and A Grades

The 2017 North Harbour Secondary Schools Finals Day for 1st XV 1B and A Grades was held on the magnificent hybrid fields at QBE Stadium Oval in brilliant sunshine and little wind which saw around 1500 people watching the fixtures through the course of the day.  Four time 1B winner Westlake 2nd XV won a see-sawing match against Mahurangi 1st XV 29-20.  The crowd were entertained as both teams gave their all for a wonderful final.  The 2nd Grade silverware and medals were secured by Orewa 2nd XV winning 29-26 over Westlake 3rd XV in another final that could have gone either way delighting the many fans present.   Rosmini 5th grade was too strong for Rangitoto dominating play and running away for a 44-0 win.   Westlake 6A held out a strong Orewa 6th grade side to win 19-8 and in the 7th grade Takapuna beat the form side for the season Mahurangi  to take the spoils with a 28-19 win.

In the B grade finals held at the top seed schools Birkenhead beat Kaipara 20-10 in the 5B finals, and in the 6B final, Westlake B thumped Massey 50-14. 

In the Wider Auckland U70Kg grade Sacred Heart were too good for Rosmini winning 48-0 in the A grade championship semi’s and Rangitoto won by default over St Peters in the A grade Plate semi’s.  In the B grade semi-finals Northcote were edged by Howick 31-29, and Takapuna just beat Whangaparaoa 7-0.  Rangitoto will face St Kents in the A Grade Plate final and in the B Grade Championship final Takapuna who topped the northern pool will take on Howick who topped the southern pool at the Auckland Schools finals on Sat 2 September at Marist Old Boys Rugby Club, Dunkirk Rd, Panmure over the Bridge.

The Kaipara College Girls played Southern Cross Campus Girls from South Auckland in the Blues Region Top 4 Girls play-off at Helensville on Monday afternoon 28 August and lost 5-26 to the experience, better drilled and bigger side who got out to a 21-0 lead in the first half with honours shared  5 all in the second half.  Rosmini 1st XV face Auckland schools champion St Kentigerns in the Blues Region Top 4 Boys  play-off at home on Saturday 2 September and Rangitoto 1st XV play Aorere the Blues Region Top 4 Co-Ed schools  play-off at home on Saturday 2 September, both games at 12pm.
