North Harbour Amateur Representative Rugby Report – 23 September

Harbour Hibiscus Women’s team won their first game of the season defeating Hawkes Bay Tui’s on QBE Stadium 20-0 as Curtain-raiser to the Canterbury Mitre 10 Cup fixture. Tries went to Justine Vizirgianakis, Caitlyn Cox and Charmaine Smith with Sophie Fisher kicking a penalty and two conversions.    Harbour Women host Auckland on QBE Stadium on Friday 29 September. 

 Harbour Men’s B travelled to New Plymouth 23 September and narrowly lost 26-29. Down three tries and Taranaki unable to convert, a Connor Collet try kept Harbour in the game at half-time.  Naki defended well in the second half so Harbour went wide and tries came to Adrian Smith, Matu Tevi, and Silverdale’s flyer Gannon Moore, with Toddy Doolan kicking 3 conversions but a late penalty to Naki took the game away. Currently lying 3rd on the table, the B’s play their final fixture versus Northland 2.30pm 30 September at East Coast Bays RFC.

The Under 85Kg team finished their season with a 31-22 win over Counties Manukau U85’s on Saturday 23 September at Northcote.  Tied up 12 all at half-time but tries came in spades to win the game.   Points scorers are Meyrick Walker, Strauss Bessell, Alex Samuels (3) with Jarrod Soar and Cam Dalzell (2) kicking the extras. It was a clean sweep for the Harbour team over the other three U85Kg teams in the Northern Region, just losing to the King Country and Thames Valley Development or 2nd XV’s, in a composite competition.  

The Under 16’s and Under 14’s finished their campaigns on Saturday 23 September at the Blues Region cross-over finals  at Auckland Marist with no wins but some much closer results with improved form.  U16 White lost 21-29 to Auckland East and U16 Cardinal were beaten 26-39 by Auckland West with Visesio Siasau, Jackson Rice, Bailey Clark-Leolahi, Preston Brown crossing for tries and a penalty each to Harrison Eakin and Paul Moala-Liava'a.  U14 White were defeated 14-31 by Northland North with Will Evans, Max Fuller scoring tries Blake Forward slotting 2 conversions and U14 Cardinal were edged 17-22 Northland South with Jamie Melvin, John Steel, Shea Bratton touching down and Zion Watling kicking a conversion.

The Under 18 Girls lost 17-33 to Auckland East at Northcote with Mikayla Robinson (2) and Dene Vosloo scoring tries, Merania Paraone kicking the conversion. The girls travel to Waikato for the Northern Region cross-over finals against the Chiefs Region teams on Sat 30 September.  Harbour Girls will play Waikato at Suburbs RFC, Flag Staff Park, Hamilton at 11am.

The Roller Mills commence their campaign on Saturday 1pm 30 September hosting Auckland West at East Coast Bays RFC in their first competition game – curtain-raiser to the Men’s B game.  The remaining games will be played in the tournament from Tuesday 10 to Sunday 15 October at St Peters School, Cambridge in the Waikato.  Harbour will play Taranaki at 3pm on Tuesday,  Bay of Plenty at 12.45pm on Wednesday, have a bye on the Thursday and play Thames Valley on Friday at 12.15pm in pool play.  Semi -finals/play-offs are on Saturday 14 October and Finals on Sunday 15 October.
