North Harbour Amateur Representative Rugby Report – 26 August

Harbour B’s managed to secure their first home victory in round two of the Northern Region Competition at Windsor Park with a 32-24 win. A very strong Waikato team travelled north, and both groups of spectators would have been happy to witness 50 plus points scored  in 80mins of rugby. Both teams were solid across the park with the half time score 14-10 to Harbour. The try count after in the first 40 was Waikato 2-1. Second 40 saw both forward packs hammering each other and both back lines running both lengths of the field with Waikato securing a total of 4 Tries in this match. But it was a day for the mercurial goal kicker David McMurtrie that kept his team in the match with 5 penalties and 1 conversion with a total of 17 points. Harbour’s tries came for Shae Tucker, Kane Jacobsen, John Tu’ungafasi.  Player of the day was first-five David McMurtrie.

North Harbour Under 19’s won against visitors Northland 36-7.  The team got the start they wanted with early pressure being rewarded with a kickable penalty, slotted by first-five Jack Bergin in the first few minutes. The ascendency continued throughout the first half with Harbour scoring 22 unanswered points before the break, due in part to excellent scrummaging and tight forward dominance.   After a flat patch early in the second half the Harbour loose forwards combined well with their backs to help Harbour run away with a five try to one victory. The win places Harbour in the Premiership division in the Jock Hobbs Memorial National Under 19’s tournament in mid-September - Goal one achieved!

The North Harbour Under 85Kg teams travelled to Hamilton to play Waikato at the Marist club and came away with a well deserved and satisfactory 31-17 win to kick-off the season.
