North Harbour Representative Rugby Round-Up – 6 and 8 October

North Harbour Representative Rugby Round-Up – 6 and 8 October

The Harbour Hibiscus Women hosted Waikato at QBE Stadium on Saturday 6 October in a double header with the Mitre 10 fixture vs Counties Manukau. It was a hard day at the office for the Hibiscus Women against a Premiership side in a cross-over fixture going down 7-44 to the strong Waikato side.   The Hibiscus played well showing some good skill and determination but Waikato quickly got on top, fed off mistakes and racked up a good half-time score of 24-7.  The second half saw Waikato continue to breach the Harbour defence lines for the final score.  A try went to Jules Newman with Sophie Fisher kicking a conversion.   Player of the Day was flanker Kate Williams.

The Te Hiku o te Ika (Northern Region) Maori tournament continued on Saturday 6 October with Te Raki Paewhenua  Maori Seniors and U17 both playing Northland at Waitemata RFC in Auckland.   The Maori Under 17 again performed very well putting away Northland 38-29.  The Maori Seniors beat Northland by default due to insufficient numbers from the Taniwha travelling down.   A game was played with Harbour loaning some players and they had a comfortable win.   Both teams now travel to Rotorua for the finals of Te Hiku o te Ika Maori tournament to be held Saturday 13 October at Rotorua Stadium.  The U17 will face Counties Manukau in a 1v2 final and the Seniors will play Bay of Plenty in their 1v2 final.

The Roller Mills team kicked off their campaign St Peters College, Cambridge on Monday 8 October but lost to a strong Waikato side 0-36. A rough first half but the boys defended well in the second half to just concede a try and conversion.  Player of the Day was James Ford.  The team is determined to do better today against Thames Valley on Tuesday.
