North Harbour Secondary School 1st XV 1A round-up for 28 July

Secondary School rugby resumed on Saturday 28 July after the July school holidays, and in the 1A competition Rangitoto surprised Orewa with a hard won 14-7 win at home, Massey thumped Birkenhead 43-3, Rosmini hosted Whangarei and won 30-22 and Westlake edged Takapuna 21-16 away in a top of the table clash.   Westlake goes out in front on 58 points with Takapuna just in behind on 55.  Rosmini secure third place on 38 with Whangarei and Massey on 27 in joint 4th place but Massey is on the up.  Orewa drop back to 25 having had the chance to go into 4th place against Rangitoto.  Rangitoto are on 21 and Birkenhead well back on 2 points with no wins for the season but hanging in there. 

The last round of games in the second round is this Saturday 4 August and the championship semi-final hosts will not change with Westlake and Takapuna well out in front.  Orewa will host Rosmini and Rosmini will want winning momentum going into the semi’s, Takapuna will want do like-wise at home to Whangarei, but the Northerners will want the win to secure 4th place and a championship semi-final.  Massey host Rangitoto who have found some late season form but the Westies will want the win to jump Whangarei into the championship semi-finals. Westlake host Birkenhead. Championship and Plate semi-finals will be held 11 August at the top-seed school with the Championship final as Curtain-raiser to Mitre 10 Cup fixture vs Northland on Thursday 16 August.  The Plate final will be at the top-seed school Saturday 18 August.
