Secondary School Rugby Kicks Off Again

Secondary School Rugby resumes after the July school holiday break.  The 1A Canon 1st XV teams had a couple of games on 22 July deferred from the mid-week round with Whangarei beating Orewa 31-20 at home and Rosmini to good for Birkenhead 34-10 away to bring all teams up to 12 games played with two rounds to go.  1A semi-finals are 12 August and the 1A final on Thursday 17 August as curtain-raiser to the Mitre 10 Cup opening fixture NH v Otago at QBE Stadium.  Westlake beat New Plymouth BHS 21-7 in a traditional fixture 22 July which is a great result.  The top 4 for the Championship are confirmed as Westlake, Rosmini , Rangitoto and Takapuna with Massey, Whangarei, Birkenhead and Orewa in the Plate group.  Fixtures for Saturday 29 July are as follows (Home team named first):

Takapuna vs Rosmini

Rangitoto vs Whangarei

Orewa vs Birkenhead

Westlake vs Massey

 

The other grades will be contesting second round fixtures this Saturday 29 July, with semi-finals scheduled for 19 August and Finals at NH Domain/Oval on Saturday 26 August.  The other grades resuming play are 1B, 1C, 2nd, 3rd, 4th(Wider Auckland U19/U70Kg), 5th, 6th and 7th with the Girls grade starting on Monday 31 July.  The 1B competition will be a cracker with Mahurangi 1st XV and Westlake and Rosmini 2nd XV’s all very close at the top of the table.
