Senior Club Rugby Round-up – 11 August

The Under 85Kg grade Championship and Plate Semi-Finals played out on Saturday 11 August and top seed Takapuna was down 12-13 to the experienced fourth seed Kumeu at the break but the Bombers scored a converted try and slotted a penalty in the second half to earn hosting rights for the Championship final at Onewa Domain.  Silverdale turned the tables on Massey at Moire Park from their big second round loss to the Westies, leading throughout to be comfortably in front 24-3 at half-time.  Despite some strong forays into Dale territory resulting in a single converted try to Massey, Silverdale maintained their demeanour and powered away to win 37-15.  In the Plate Semi’s Northcote kicked a late penalty to edge East Coast Bays 17-16 at Harvey’s house and Mahurangi reversed last weeks result to win another close one 19-17 over North Shore in Devonport.  Takapuna host Silverdale in the Championship Final and Northcote play Mahurangi at home in the Plate Semi-Finals on Saturday 18 August.  Silverdale has beaten the Blue and Golds in both rounds this season but Takapuna has got the momentum from some strong outings with 6 wins on the trot in the latter part of the second round, their last loss was to the Dale.  Northcote has had the wood on Mahurangi throughout the season but only by one point when they last met and on their day Mahu can come through and maybe take the Plate home to Warkworth.

Great Photos by John Rau as always
