Senior Club Rugby Round-up – 5 August

Senior Club Rugby Round-up – 5 August

The Under 85Kg grade played the last games of their second round before semi-finals and the top four only separated by 6 competition points in a great competition shuffled the cards again for some very interesting Championship semi-finals for 11 August. Takapuna just got on top of Bays in Mairangi Bay 16-13, Northcote surprised Massey at Harvey’s place winning 23-19, the old heads in the Kumeu side edged frustrated Silverdale 23-20 at the ‘Dale and North Shore put away Mahrangi 24-6 in Devo.  Helensville had the bye. Silverdale was looking for a win at home and had a 15-5 lead mid-way in the first half but were unable to finish some promising moves, allowed Kumeu to take their chances and the Westies played deservedly well for the W.  With Massey and Silverdale floundering in their last games, Takapuna jumped to the top spot to finish on 58, last weeks leader Massey on 56, leader for much of the season Silverdale on 55 and coming home on a wet sail, Kumeu finished on 53 to contest the Championship semi-finals 11 August.  Takapuna will host Kumeu and Massey will play Silverdale at home to decide the Championship finalists to be played at the top-seed club 18 August.  In the Plate semi-finals, North Shore host Mahurangi and Northcote will face East Coast Bays.
