Team entries are in and the players now being validated by the JRC for eligibility. There is 4 regional J1 teams – Northern Reds (Silverdale/Mahurangi/Helensville), Central Sabres (East Coast Bays and Northcote), Southern Sharks (Takapuna and North Shore) and Western Pioneers (Kumeu and Massey). The J1 coaches are Mike Lindsay and Lewis Rawiri (Northern Reds); Stephen Payne, Aymon Hohaia and Dave Breach (Western Pioneers); Lief Blair and Mark Fairburn (Southern Sharks) and Peter Sipkes and Reuben Esterhuysen (Central Sabres) who have 60 players each to select their teams from. There is 29 teams in J2, J3 and J4 grades representing the 10 clubs participating. The dates are Sun 24 July (Seeding Round), Sun 7 August (Quarters), Sun 21 August (semi’s) and finals are on Sun 28 august. Venues will be advised next week. Again this season there will be a Plate round for the runners up from Quarter Finals. The trophies are old mahogany shields which date back 40 years to the late 1970’s which many of the coaches would have played for too, who are now out there coaching the kids in this popular and much anticipated event in North Harbour junior club rugby.
