A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO

Kia ora Harbour Community,

I hope you enjoyed our first refreshed edition of our Harbour CONNECT. I know the team have been working hard and enjoyed working collaboratively to bring it together.

Although the COVID storm continues to impact all New Zealand, it is exciting to be working towards Rugby starting back up. Personally, I’m looking forward to sucking

in the cool evening air when our NH Marist J3 Avengers team get back on the field for training!

What has become clear over this time is that we have a connected and passionate community leadership group who care about Rugby and its people. We would like to acknowledge the Council of Clubs, Club Chairs, Club Secretaries, Secondary Schools Exec, Junior Rugby Exec, Premier Coaches, Referees Exec for all their hard work getting Rugby and our community to this stage.

NHR would also like to thank the team at NZR for providing the necessary guidance nationally to support our plan locally.

To our wider Rugby community, we just ask for your understanding and patience.  It has been a huge ask on our volunteer working committees to ensure all the safety measures are in place during the prepare to train phase. But I am pleased to say that we are almost there with Clubs and Schools and the Union’s sign off process.

The NHR Board has decided at the March Board meeting not to collect Union affiliation fees this year.  The financial impact of COVID on our Clubs, Schools and participants is real. We do not envisage it will remedy the situation totally however we hope this will slightly ease some pressure at this time.

There is more to be done so Stage 4 of our plan “When the storm passes, we are ready” is about executing plans aimed at our key priorities:

·  Financial health and viability - “We must live within our means
·  Community Rugby will continue - “First and Foremost, we are here for our 10,000
·  Our performance pathway remains strong to promote Harbour people - QBE Men & Women’s Teams participating in National Provincial Competitions.

We will stay connected with our community leadership as there will be challenges ahead; and we want to ensure we provide a safe quality experience that meets our community’s needs.

Take it easy,

Dave
