Kaipara Secondary School Girls made history on Friday night defeating Auckland’s Southern Cross College 17-15 to be the first North Harbour school side to contest an NZ Schools Top 4 semi-final. Kaipara Girls will travel to Palmerston North for their semi-final.
In the Blues 1st XV play-off against Mt Albert GS, Westlake were tied up 5 all at half-time and looked good but the strong Auckland side stepped up in the second half to win 13-8. Massey contested the Blues Co-Ed play-off against Aorere College and were ahead 6-5 at half-time but Aorere came back to lead 16-11. With time up Nathan Vaatausuli scored to tie the score but the try went unconverted. Both sides scored two tries each so the first try scored by Aorere decided the fixture.
2016 is by far the best outing for North Harbour schools in the prestigious NZ Schools Top 4 competition and Kaipara, Westlake and Massey have made the North Harbour rugby community proud of their efforts.
