It is the business end of the season with the 1A Championship semi-finals to be held 12 August.
Westlake topped the table on 63 points with just one loss to Rosmini (57 points) last Saturday 0-17
which would have grated. Rosmini are building nicely but Rangitoto (50) are having their best
season in years, are in the way and toppled Rosmini in the first game of the season in May so are
definitely up for it and there is a good vibe in Rangi rugby this season. Is this year Rangi’s first time
for donkeys to get in the final? However the never say die Takapuna (39) crew got in the way of the
Rangi march to the finals with an upset 20-8 win again last Saturday and playing all the rugby. So a
couple of curve balls last Saturday will have put ‘Lake’s and Rangi’s coaching staff in a spin and there
would have been a bit of angst and hard yards at training this week. So that’s great for the rugby
community to see two great championship finals on this Saturday 12 August - Westlake will host
Takapuna and Rosmini will face Rangitoto on their patch. In the Plate semi-finals Massey (25) take
on Orewa (9)at home and Birkenhead (12) travel to Whangarei (18).
1A Championship Final is 5.15pm Thursday 17 August as curtain-raiser to the opening game of the
2017Mitre 10 Cup vs Otago. Plate final is Saturday 19 August at the top seed school.
The top 4 will also sort out the North Harbour qualifiers over next week for the Blues region play-offs
for NZ School Top 4 national championship in the Boys and Co-Ed divisions. The North Harbour Boys
qualifier will play the Auckland Champion 2 September at the Harbour school and the Co-Ed qualifier
will travel to a Northland school (Kaitaia, Kerikeri or Dargaville) 24 August and the winner will play
the Auckland qualifier possibly Aorere, 2 September at the Harbour school. The winners of those
games play the Chiefs, Hurricanes and South Island champions 7-10 September in Palmerston North.
The 1B championship has Mahurangi 1 st XV and Westlake 2 nd XV tied up on 46 points and playing
each other at Warkworth this Saturday to decide who tops the table going into the semi-finals 19
August – it was a 12 all draw last time they met so the game will be a cracker. In the 1C
championship Kristin 1 st XV and Northcote 1 st XV look like the finalists with one round to go 12
August and the final 19 August.
Orewa 2 nd XV top the table in the 2 nd Grade with one round to go this Saturday and the semi-finals 19
August. Close astern are Westlake 3 rd XV and Rangitoto 2 nd XV. The 3 rd grade has Westlake 4 th XV,
Albany Senior 1 st XV and Takapuna 2 nd XV still in the fight for the final 19 August.
In the Wider Auckland U70 Kg grades it’s a great competition very much enjoyed by our schools, and
Rosmini 4 th grade are in the top 4 of the A Division against the three of the big boys of Auckland
Schools rugby, Grammar, Kings and Sacred Heart and flying the Harbour flag into semi-finals.

August and will face off against the B Division South zone in cross-over quarter finals 19 August.
Whangaparaoa and Northcote are in semi-final contention in the B division too. Auckland schools

In the 5A grade Rosmini, Rangitoto and Massey A are in finals contention with the last round this
Saturday 12 August and semi’s 19 August. 5B has Kaipara and Birkenhead out in front. Westlake
5A is mid-table across the Bridge in the outstanding and strong U15A competition, the nursery for
Auckland 1A.
In 6A Westlake A, Orewa and Rosmini A are the front runners for semi-finals with a round to go and
semi-finals 19 August. 6B has Westlake B, Massey A and Rosmini B all tied up with the tie breaker
this Saturday and the semi’s 19 August.
Mahurangi tops the table in 7A with Takapuna close in behind, with Kings and Rosmini a little further
back prior to the last round of games before semi’s next week. Westlake Red and Rangitoto are
topping 7B with the last round this week and the final is 19 August.
The Secondary School Girls final is this Monday 14 August with the table topping, 9 wins from 9
Kaipara side hosting Glenfield at 4pm. The winner will be the North Harbour qualifier for the Blues
region play-off against an Auckland school 2 September at the Harbour school, for NZ Schools Top 4
6/7 September.
