Recreational Services Club of Origin is underway.

What may go down as one of the great initiatives in recent times is the inspiration of one of rugby's greatest supporters in the Harbour region. The Recreational Services Club of Origin is something close to the heart of business owners Brett Turner and Paul Broom. "Recreational Services is a business built because of rugby. Paul and I met during our playing days and have been deeply involved in the game for as long as we can both remember" comments Managing Director Brett Turner. "It helps that our business is literally tied to the grass roots - but rugby is in our blood. We have worked closely with local Colleges in our region for a long time both in terms of time we have given to them and of course support they need"

The much anticipated and well patronised inaugural Recreational Services Club of Origin programme kicks off this Sunday 31 July at Silverdale Rugby Club.

This is festival rugby with the emphasis on fun and comradely. It is an opportunity for College players to get back to their roots and catch up with mates that they may not have seen for a while.

The tournament format will see 25 teams playing two 10-aside, 20 minute games each, starting at 1pm and finishing at 4.30pm in U17 Open weight, U15 Open and U15 Restricted grades.

Secondary School players will be drawn back to their club of origin where they played as juniors and have a run with their old mates.

The winners of the first round will play other winners in their second games likewise with losers playing losers to keep the matches even.    With three or four years playing together in the Recreational Services Club of Origin it is anticipated the players will form a bond with their club of origin and return to play age group rugby after leaving school.    Another two rounds of games will be held 14 August and 4 September at venues yet to be determined.
