Long serving North Harbour Rugby CEO steps down.
After 11 years as Chief Executive of the North Harbour Rugby Union, Brett Hollister is stepping down. Brett, one of New Zealand’s longest serving rugby chief executives, has presided over a challenging yet exciting time at North Harbour Rugby as the union sought to regain its position as one of the nation’s premier rugby unions.
Now one of largest unions in the country boasting in excess of 10,000 registered players, winning the Mitre 10 Cup Championship last year, seeing the women's game growing exponentially in the region, and reporting strong financial performance, Brett is leaving North Harbour Rugby in excellent shape.
During Brett’s tenure North Harbour Rugby has built strong and productive relationships with New Zealand Rugby and the New Zealand Super Rugby teams, particularly the Blues, to the extent that North Harbour will host an All Black vs. South Africa Test on September 16th this year (the first in 13 years), and has 14 current North Harbour players contracted to Super Rugby teams.
Chairman, Shaun Nixon, speaking on behalf of the North Harbour Rugby Board, acknowledged the extraordinary contribution made by Brett over the past decade and is pleased that he will stay on to assist the board with the appointment of his replacement, and several other transition projects.
New Zealand Rugby Chief Executive Steve Tew noted that “Brett has been a strong advocate for provincial rugby in New Zealand whilst at the same time providing excellent support for many of the initiatives and activities of New Zealand Rugby over the past 11 years. “Brett is one of the most experienced and accomplished sports executives in NZ and his contribution to major initiatives like the players collective will be missed. "
