The Massey University Harbour Sport Excellence Awards 2016 were held at the Spencer on Byron last Friday 25th November. There were many deserving winners and a lot of happy smiles.
“The Overall Supreme Winner” was won deservedly by Lisa Carrington for her efforts in 2016; notably winning a Gold Medal for the K-1 200m & Bronze Medal in the K-1 500m, in this year’s 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
North Harbour Rugby had two winners on the night:
Glesen Wine Volunteer of the year: Glenn Wheeler
Harbour Sport Regional Talented Sportsman of the year: Tevita Li
Congratulations to both these men, for their outstanding contribution to the North Harbour Community. North Harbour rugby is extremely proud of both their achievements.
We would also like to acknowledge Simon Cheesman for being recognised by "Hayes Knight Sporting Acknowledgement Award" in Rugby Union
North Harbour Rugby had finalists in several other awards, whom narrowly missed out on winning they are as follows:
Sportsmen of the year – James Parsons
Junior Sportsmen of the year – Hapakuki Moala-Liava’a
Regional Team of the year – North Harbour Mitre 10 Cup Squad
Referee of the year – Brendon Pickerill
Sporting Event of the year – Club of Origin
