Hibiscus to Black Ferns Tournament

Hibiscus to Black Ferns Tournament

The Hibiscus to Black Ferns Tournament is a tournament to celebrate Harbour’s success and growth in the women’s rugby sector in 2016. This year our numbers for females in rugby has grown significantly with huge potential to continue this is 2017. Here at Harbour we are continuously working on developing our pathway to ensure girls in rugby always have a grade and team to play for. As this pathway strengthens, and the talent we have in Harbour develops this can only mean good things for feeding players into our top Hibiscus FPC side. With our Hibiscus side back in the national provincial competition our players gain quality experience and exposure to be selected for our national sides – Black Ferns, and Black Ferns Sevens.

This tournament is about getting in behind our national team, and supporting the amazing achievements of our two Hibiscus players Chelsea Alley and Charmaine Smith who have been selected in the squad to take on the Wallaroo’s. On display in this tournament is a small snippet of our harbour pathway, with girls year 3/4, year 5/6 and intermediate Rippa rugby grades and our U15’s Sevens grade. 16 teams, 4 in each grade will get the exciting opportunity to play on QBE stadium before the test match. Following the conclusion of the tournament they will do a parade around the field, line the tunnel and filter into the stands to watch the battle between the Black Ferns and Wallaroo’s which kicks off at 2.30pm.

North Harbour Rugby Union is extremely excited and thankful for the opportunity to host a test match between two quality sides. Thank you NZRU for the support you have given regarding this tournament.
