The North Harbour Rugby Senior Men’s & Women’s draws have been released a week out from the competition commencing on Saturday June 20th.
The men’s Premier 1 competition has been affected by Covid-19 and instead of a traditional 17 week competition it will now be a 12 week competition with one full round followed by Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final to be played on Saturday September 5th (Venue TBC). Two enticing match ups in week one will see the ‘Battle of the West’ where Massey takes on Kumeu at Moire Park at 2.45pm and the central clash of Takapuna taking on Silverdale at Onewa at the same time.
The women’s competition like last year runs across the wider Auckland region, with Harbour entering a Premier 15’s and Development 10’s team. With the introduction of the new senior women’s model this year, these two Barbarian teams represent all 12 clubs across the region playing in a jersey incorporating every Harbour clubs’ colours.
North Harbour CEO David Gibson is excited about competitions coming back after Covid-19. “There is so much positivity about community rugby restarting at all levels. Our senior competition’s will lead the way followed by school and junior competitions a week later. Its more than a game to our community and that is coming through strongly. We encourage people to get down and support your local Club”.
Head of Operations, Nick Mulvaney is grateful for the work our community volunteers and commercial partners have had to work through to get here. “Without our Harbour volunteers & commercial partners we would not have a Union, let alone a competition. They should all be very proud of their achievements.”
Medical Supplies Partner of Harbour Rugby, D3 Tape have a generous initiative to get the season underway. The ‘Strap up & Kick-off’ campaign will donate a $250 medical supplies pack to all Senior Clubs, injecting over $3000 worth of product into the community. D3 Tape is also aware that some Clubs may not have the immediate resource to get their medical supplies, and D3 are keen to work with them on a case by case basis scenario to ensure their teams are looked after for the season.
Managing Director of D3, Craig Dowd wants to support local. "Our community is very important to us, especially during this time of financial uncertainty. We are all in this together as we head into a sporting season that has been condensed, had funding reduced or pulled completely. At this stage, there is no clear sign of how the governments fund relief for sports will filter back into the grassroots of our game, so let us help get your club started. Our gift package is to assist with getting players on the field and our way to support local".
