New Zealand Rugby Women’s Invitational Tournament @ East Coast Bays RFC on Saturday 19th September - Three Hundred and twenty players involved in an amazing day of competition, development , and aspiration.
Harbour Hibiscus Senior Women were in action throughout the day last weekend playing in the New Zealand Rugby Women’s Invitational Tournament and for the 3rd year in a row took out the honors.
The purpose of the tournament is to provide aspiration and growth in Women’s Representative Rugby. North Harbour has been involved in this tournament since 2014 and it has been the catalyst for the Harbour Hibiscus to enter into the Farah Palmer Cup. The Women’s draw had development teams from Auckland, Waikato, alongside teams from Northland and Taranaki. We wish all the best to Northland and Taranaki in the continued growth of their Women’s programs.
The day had a development focus with our Hibiscus U18 team coached by Nick Blundell and James Johnson playing Counties Manakau in a pre-season fixture. The growth in our junior Hibiscus players was also on show with 14 Club Rippa teams playing during the day and they had an awesome time with the Senior Women’s teams supporting them alongside Black Ferns 7’s player Tyla – Nathan Wong and Black Fern Justine Lavea.
Thank you to East Coast Bays RFC for hosting the day and your team of volunteers, particularly Bruce Mitchinson and Larry McWalter.
