Harbour B’s continued their winning way in the Northern Region Men’ s B competition with a 34-12 win over Counties Manukau Red at Windsor Park for three wins on the trot. Sam Graham, Lewis Gjaltema, Saolofa Silipa, Josh Tafili (2) all scored tries with Toddy Doolan adding 3 conversions and a penalty. Counties came back with a couple of tries in the second half but not enough. Men’s B play the Auckland side next Saturday 9 September at University at 1pm.
Harbour Hibiscus Women’s team were well beaten 7-84 by 2016 champion Counties at Ecolight Stadoium, Pukekohe in their opening game of the season. Harbour Women have a bye 9 September.
The Under 19 side were given a lesson on QBE Stadium by Auckland A going down 12-57 in the final seeding game in the Blues region pool. From the outset Auckland A had a stronger mindset and also used their physical strength to maintain dominance for 70 minutes. North Harbour showed their potential in patches, breaking the line through our midfield combination on a number of occasions. Although Auckland A had the weight advantage in the scrums, the Harbour pack held, and on a number of occasions gained ascendancy at scrum time. Harbour U19 qualify for the top 8 in the Jock Hobbs Memorial National Under 19 Tournament from their two previous wins against Auckland B and Northland and will face Wellington in their quarter-final 9 September.
The Under 85Kg grade nailed a second win for the season defeating their old nemesis Auckland 27-18 at Windsor Park. It was 11-10 to Auckland at the break. Harbour dominated territory and defended well in the second half with a try and 3 penalties providing a great win. The U85Kg team march on to face Thames Valley Development XV in Paeroa on Saturday 9 September.
The Under 16’s and Under 14’s kicked off their season with away games to Northland. U16 White beat Northland South 26-12 and U14 White edged Northland South 24-19, both games at the Whangarei Marist club. At Kerikeri rugby club, Northland North beat both North Harbour Cardinal sides – U16 7-20 and U14 0-50. The Under 16’s and Under 14’s travel to Waitemata club to face the Auckland West and Central sides next Saturday 9 September.
The Under 18 Girls have the bye 9 September.
