North Harbour Rugby – Premier 1 competition results 28 May

The top of the table clash did not disappoint with a tight battle between the two front runners. North Shore got the better start, controlling the ball and the pace of the game to score all of their points in the first half. Luke Hamilton’s effort from a nice ball from the Shore 8 off the back of the scrum, with Luke dummying and shimming through to score.

Whilst the wind was more of a cross than a tail wind, Takapuna certainly used it better in the second half, with a number of effective mid field bombs and controlled use of the football saw them come back into the contest with a great try after Jamie Hinchco was yellow carded seeing Takapuna score under the posts with 5 to go. Stoic defense was the hall mark of this win, with North Shore hammering away but not finding any answers. Takapuna deserved their 23-22 win.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Western Pioneer v Mahurangi game was a typical hard country game. Western, with plenty of errors creeping into their play, showed real guts to keep out a determined Mahu side. It wasn’t pretty but Western get the W they wanted.

Marist again showed they are team on the improve after another gutsy first half performance that held an inform Northcote at bay for long periods of time. As has been the recent script for Marist, the second half again took its toll, with Northcote getting the ball wider and the game opening up for Cote to easy away

Salesi Maafu will have two reasons to celebrate tonight as his Massey side stepped up to put Silverdale to the sword and he personally will receive his 100 game Blazer Presentation after last weeks 100th game. Massey controlled the game from the outset ensuring the result was never in doubt.

The Glenfield - East Coast Bays clash turned into a real nail biter with the lead never sure and both sides really combative in their play. Glenfield will be deligted with their win, keeping them in touch with the front runners and importantly getting within striking distance of the Bays on the ladder.
