Northcote would have put a few shivers up te spines of the competition front runners after their 16-10 win over front runners Massey this afternoon. Its is clear their new loose forward combination is starting to click, supported well by a strong front 5. There was never much in this match with Massey, thanks to another hookers try from Harbour squad member Ray Niuia coupled with the boot of Nico Ratumaitavuki saw the home side turn 10-6 in front at half time. But that is were their scoring stopped. In a physical and tough battle between two committed teams, Northcote managed to get a try of its own in the second stanza with the boot proving the difference in the end.
It was the day of the away teams today, with North Shore travelling to East Coast Bays and being tested all the way for their hard fought 22-14 win whilst Takapuna also travelled up to Warkworth and although skipping away early, were left with a few nervous minutes towards the end of the match as they held on to a 29-22 victory.
Glenfield travelled up to Silverdale and also had to really battle hard with a Strong starting Silverdale side that really dominated in the first half but unable to capitalise on position and possession Glenfield came back with the determination to take out a strong 2nd half with impacted coming from the bench
Western Pioneesr, like Glenfield, notched up their first win of the season with a comfortable win over Marist.
