Primary School Tournaments have been great

This week the community rugby team have been busy with two tournaments. The first was a Primary School Tournament held at Kumeu Rugby Club. There were teams from ten schools in the region competing in tackle, Yr 3&4 Rippa, and Yr 5/6 Rippa Rugby in both boys and girls divisions. With the sun shining and the rain holding off the barefoot kids got stuck into their games.  We had a great reception and both the girls and boys played some quality games of rugby.

Our second tournament was held on Wednesday at North Harbour Domain. This was the third and final Intermediate School Tournament for the year. Thirty teams competed across six pools which included Girls Rippa Top 5, Boy Competitive Sevens, Girls Rippa Pool A, Girls Rippa Pool B, Boys Development Sevens Pool A and Boys Development Sevens Pool B. The games consisted of two halves of ten minutes on a half sized field. With schools pitching their gazebos on the side of the fields, spot prizes handed out, Mitre10 Cup players there and trophies up for grabs, the day was a huge success. The quality of rugby played in this tournament by both girls and boys is a positive and exciting sign. The winners of the Girls Rippa Top 5 were Takapuna Normal and the winners of the Boys Competitive Sevens were Northcross who bet their old foes Rosmini in the final match to claim back the trophy. Well-deserved by both teams!

Both these tournaments were great opportunities for girls and boys to give rugby a go, be competitive and have fun. Whilst also gaining that all important experience to further develop their skills and understanding of the game. They also provide great stepping stones that feed out future grades.
