Regional Facilities Auckland (RFA), the new "owners" of QBE Stadium have announced exciting plans to further develop QBE Stadium with the aim of reinforcing its position as New Zealands finest mid size stadium.
The RFA proposes to invest $12 million towards building a roof over the Western stand that will "mirror" the roof that already covers the east side of QBE Stadium.
The plan is to couple this initiative with the construction of infrastructure to accommodate the easy installation of an additional 11,000 quality portable seats (which RFA already own) and associated spectator amenities and concessions, at the venue when required for specific events. This will result in a total seated capacity of up to 30,600, of which approximately 80% will be covered by the existing stadium roof and the proposed new roof over the Western stand.
This work is likely to be completed in 2017.
The proposed new roof over the Western stand will be future-proofed so that, when future funding becomes available, a retractable roof may be added to connect with the existing roof to create a fully enclosed stadium.
