A 64-10 first up effort over an under powered Northland side left many of the Harbour fans that came out in the blustry conditions wondering whether this year may be the year - or was it merely an aberration. Harbour did look good for long periods of the match with a very structured defense and a team that looked dangerous every time they took the ball to the line.
Of particular note was the contribution of the new boys in the squad, with wing Afa Faatau looking the best of them, closely followed by a pleasing 20 min cameo by youngster James Little, who bagged two tries in his short stint on the paddock.
The game rapidly developed into one way traffic, with Northlands only try coming from a bad defensive read in what was otherwise a pretty polished performance given the it was the first game.
Fans wont have to wait too long to find out just where this team is at, as next Friday Harbour will again run out on its home ground to take on the might of Auckland, who in pre-season last year posted a similar score line against our boys in that pre-season fixture
The boys now have the weekend off and will welcome their Super players into camp on Monday as they prepare for next Friday's match. After that thy play their last pre-season fixture against Hawkes Bay before they open the Mitre10 Cup season with a home fixture against Counties.
