Top-seeds Northcote nailed their semi-final against Marist at Harvey Wright fields winning 57-24 in a high scoring encounter. Silverdale travelled away to Riverhead to take on Kumeu whom they had struggled to beat in the earlier rounds and came away with a comfortable 38-10 win.
The “Big Dance” is at Harvey Wright fields with Northcote hosting the boys from the Hibiscus Coast travelling down State Highway 1 for a great match up to decide the 2016 Under 19 final with both teams electing to play 15 aside. Northcote has not lost a game in both rounds but Silverdale has built in the last few games with their goal of contesting the final now realty for the underdog.
The U19 grade looked dead and buried at the end of 2015 but the Council of Clubs and club stalwarts put together a 10 aside competition which has morphed into a 15 aside competition for most games and Age Group rugby is back on the park. More teams are anticipated next season but the clubs need those passionate people to run these teams – is that you?
