Silverdale traveled to Harvey Wright fields for the U19 final against top-seed Northcote whom they had not beaten during the season.
Silverdale won 8-6 through outstanding defence on the part of the loose forward trio backed up by the next tier of defensive line. They were aggressive in defending the line forcing Northcote to make errors and turn the ball over and then counter attack. Silverdale maintained good ball control and moved the ball around through the backs but Northcote also defended well with only one lapse resulting in a first half try. Three penalties rounded out the score line, one to Dale and two to Northcote.
It was entertaining rugby for the biggish crowd and it was a delighted but exhausted Silverdale that won the day. The young referee Josh Ellis contributed well to the game taking positive but firm control. At the after match Northcote were humble in defeat and platitudes were exchanged by both sides and the referee. NHRU Director Brett Craies and, NHRU Life Member and Operations Manager Miles Marcroft spoke well and presented the winners medals and trophy.
